Windows dressing: Microsoft’s latest holiday ‘ugly sweater’ soft-wear pays tribute to XP - GeekWire

Microsoft seems to have rebooted a holiday idea from last season and is bringing back some “ugly sweater” soft-wear that pays homage to its classic software.

In a tweet on Wednesday, Tom Warren, a senior editor at The Verge, showed off the multicolored treads, and the box they came in, featuring the Windows XP logo. The box was labeled “pro-ho-ho-fessional” under the name of the software, which was originally released in 2001. On the back of the box, the contents were described as “easy-on installation” and “user-friendly” interface, among other things.

The Windows Twitter account — aimed at people who use the actual software to #DoGreatThings — seemed to tease that sweater news was coming on Thursday. A save-the-date tweet about a holiday party included a line urging attendees to wear something outlandish to take part in an ugly sweater contest.

Last December, Microsoft showed off a Windows 95 sweater and promised to give some away to fans who desperately wanted to rock vintage looking soft-wear. Thousands of people responded to the Redmond, Wash.-based tech giant in hopes of getting hooked up. Including this guy …
