LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Free health screenings will be available in Lexington in February as part of the annual movement, Go Red for Women.

The American Heart Association encourages people across the nation to wear red to raise awareness about a health threat facing women, cardiovascular disease.

The association reports the disease kills one woman every 80 seconds and takes more lives than all forms of cancer combined. Heart disease and stroke also impact the lives of one in three women and cardiac events are on the rise in young women in their 20s.

The association says the movement is designed to inspire women to engage and encourage each other in leading a healthy lifestyle.

National Wear Red Day is February 7, 2020.

As part of the day there will be free health screenings offered on the day from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Macy’s in Fayette Mall.

The Lexington Center and the Helix Parking Garage will both go red in honor of the campaign. Officials say other landmarks will be confirmed.
