Who will wear the crown? Miss Placentia/Miss Yorba Linda pageant is Feb. 8 - OCRegister

Seven will vie Saturday night to spend the next year as Miss Placentia or Miss Yorba Linda.

As usual, the 2020 scholarship pageant will also name an Outstanding Teen to represent each city in the state pageant, which is a feeder to the Miss America contest, as well as at community events throughout the year.

MEET THE CONTESTANTS

• Ariana Cruz, 18, of Santiago Canyon College; Talent: Colorguard; Platform: Creating cultural diversity in youth

• Rachel Griffin, 21, of Cal State Fullerton; Talent: Singing; Platform: Importance of speech communication

• Lilah Haye, 19, of UCLA; Talent: Contemporary dance; Platform: Promoting positive body image

• Giselle Hernandez, 17, of El Dorado High; Talent: Instrumental; Platform: Everyone Matters

• Areeba Kaukab, 21, of Cal State Fullerton; Talent: Spoken word; Platform: Advocating for women of color

• Megan Kukreja, 19, of California Baptist University; Talent: Jazz dance; Platform: American Cancer Society

• Alexandria Steward, 18, of Orange Coast College; Talent: Gymnastics; Platform: Mental health and suicide awareness

More than $10,000 will be awarded in scholarships by night’s end. During the evening, the contestants will showcase their talents, which run from gymnastics to singing, as well as answering an onstage question, walking in the evening wear category and more.

Each candidate has chosen a social platform to discuss and promote.

There to help crown the next class of title holders will be Miss Placentia 2019 Ashley Nelson, Miss Yorba Linda 2019 Monica MacDonald, Miss Placentia Outstanding Teen 2019 Peyton Heitz and Miss Yorba Linda Outstanding Teen 2019 Karissa Dole.

This will be the 57th year a Miss Placentia is named, several years ago Miss Yorba Linda joined the contest.
