HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - More people will be traveling on Nebraska roadways this weekend as people travel to their Holiday destinations, which means more traffic, more distractions and more people in a hurry.

Increased traffic also means an increased emphasis on safety, which comes from Nebraska's Click It or Ticket campaign, which runs Wednesday, No.v 27 through Dec. 1. It prioritizes wearing a seat belt and properly using child safety seats.
It's the second time this year Nebraska will hold the campaign, the first one running about two weeks earlier in the year.
Statistics on accidents occurring over Thanksgiving weekend and in times individuals failed to wear a seat belt vividly show the importance of wearing one at all times. In 2018, 66 percent of the 175 traffic fatalities failed to wear a seat belt, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In 2017 there were 365 deaths over Thanksgiving weekend, with over 50 percent happening at night.
"Just a reminder that it's not just the driver," Deputy Byron Morrow of Adam County Sheriff's Office said. "It's the family in the vehicle, the family at home who is waiting for you to make it back safely and wearing your seat belt and using child safety seats properly is the best way to guarantee that happens."
Wearing a seat belt is the easiest way to prevent a severe accident, as well as slowing down, giving extra time and putting away all distractions.
Adam County Sheriff's Office will have increased patrol in areas where it sees a large number of accidents or traffic stops.
Law enforcement agencies across Nebraska will be participating and urge drivers to take that extra second to buckle up as it could save someone's life.
