TAMPA, Fla. — Auburn will be making a slight tweak to its regular uniforms for Wednesday's Outback Bowl against Minnesota, but for good reason.
The team announced on Twitter on Tuesday, New Year's Eve, that it will be wearing alternate helmets designed to honor Pat Sullivan, the Heisman Trophy-winning program legend who died at the age of 69 on Dec. 1.
The helmets feature the classic "AU" logo on one side with Sullivan's No. 7 on the other, as well as a gray facemask.
This will be first time the Tigers worn alternate helmets since 2007, when they honored the 1957 national championship team with throwback helmets for a game against Vanderbilt.
The Outback Bowl is scheduled to kick off at noon CT on Wednesday in Tampa, Florida, and can be seen on ESPN.
