The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers are getting everything in order for the upcoming Super Bowl LIV match.

Each season the NFL rotates the conference that serves as the designated home team in the Super Bowl. In Super Bowl LIII, the NFC conference champion Los Angles Rams were the home team. This time around the AFC conference champions get the honor of being the home team. This impacts, of course, the uniforms that teams will get to wear and the coin toss.

As the designated home team, the Chiefs will wear their typical home uniform with red tops and white pants. The 49ers will wear their typical road uniform of white tops and gold pants. Initially, San Francisco petitioned to wear their all-white throwback jerseys. Apparently, the NFL shut that down.

For the superstitious types, Kansas City wore their all-white road uniform against the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl I. They lost that game and a superstitious Hank Stram would have the all-white road uniforms shelved for the remainder of his tenure as head coach. In Super Bowl IV, which is the franchise’s only victory in the game, the Chiefs wore their home colors.

The 49ers have previously appeared in six Super Bowls and won five of them. Two of their five Lombardi Trophies have come while wearing their away colors. Their one loss in the Super Bowl has come while wearing their home uniform.
