According to USA Today, the symbolic move was organized by the House’s Democratic Women's Caucus. Dozens of congresswomen also made a similar gesture at Trump's State of the Union address last year.

When discussing the effort at a press conference on Tuesday, Rep. Rep. Nydia Velázquez (D-N.Y.) also called the move a “sign of women empowerment and unity” while speaking to reporters on Tuesday, according to USA Today.

“It is important for everyone, including the president, to understand that we play an important role here in the Congress and elsewhere,” she continued.

A bulk of the congresswomen were also seen donning “ERA YES” buttons in photos posted to social media on Tuesday to promote the Equal Rights Amendment, according to The Washington Post.
