SINCE NO FACET of life is off-piste for social media these days, it should come as no surprise that ski wear is being driven to fashionable new peaks by humanity’s unquenchable thirst to look cute in vacation pics and post them. As it did for beach clothing, triggering the bikini and beach-vacation-wear boom of the last few years, Instagram has influenced slope style, resulting in an uptick in ski garb that’s chic enough to wear back in the city after Winter Break. If you decide to invest in a fashion-forward, navy-blue fringed Moncler Genius parka for over $2,000, you’ll want it to work in Manhattan as well as Montana.
That ski-to-city parka is part of a burgeoning selection of high-end skiable pieces that are worth showing off back home. Ms. Power said she’s seen a huge shift in the past five years, during which Matchesfashion’s ski wear business has grown double digits each year.

The puffer is already a fixture in fashion. Moncler has has set a standard for high-style iterations through its Moncler Genius series. The North Face has partnered with streetwear titan Supreme and Canada Goose just announced a collaboration with avant-garde Parisian brand Y/Project. DutchCK brand Goldbergh makes trim leopard-printed parkas (all under $1,000, a deal in this pricey category) which would look as put-together over black trousers and ankle boots in the city as over your bulbous ski pants. Balance your sporty parka with restrained, dark-colored basics in the city to avoid a misguided Ivana-Trump-in-1980s-Aspen look.
Few brands bring a fashion eye to skiwear more adeptly than Azech Mountain, designed by Casey Cadwallader, who grew up skiing in New Hampshire and started working with Aztech’s founders shortly after they launched the brand in 2013. On its website, it devotes an entire section, called “City Life,” to the look, including a reversible, logo-less bomber that could withstand the winter winds on the West Side Highway during a day of gallery hopping without making it appear you got lost on your way to Stowe. “It’s about trying to build all of that real technicality and luxury into the pieces, but then also to make them so that they are not something that’s embarrassing to wear in the city,” said the designer.
The idea of a separate ski wardrobe that you only bring out once a year feels outdated and closet-bloating. Triana Trujillo, a stylist and skier who splits her time between Los Angeles and Aspen, has noticed an increase in ski fashion off the slopes in the latter. “If you’re somebody who’s there to vacation, take pictures and do more of the après scene, you’re probably wearing more of those trendy, fashion looks,” said Ms. Trujillo, who wears her ski jackets with boots and jeans out on the town. Aspen has recently been flooded with influencer dinners and fashion shoots by brands like Perfect Moment, Cordova and Net-a-porter. At Chanel’s ski-inspired pop-up shop earlier this year, Ms. Trujillo bought a fleece-lined bodysuit. “It’s actually super warm but I didn’t wear it skiing…I don’t know how I feel about skiing in a bodysuit.” But it’s perfect for keeping her warm enroute to the bar.
