Plainfield Schools Encourage You to Wear Red on Friday, Feb. 7 - TAPinto.net

PLAINFIELD, NJ — The Plainfield Public Schools district is encouraging everyone to wear red on Friday, February 7, deemed National Wear Red Day®, to show support for heart disease awareness.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the leading cause of death for men, women, and people of most racial and ethnic groups in the country.  One in four deaths each year are a result of heart disease.  The disease costs the United States around $219 billion each year, the CDC reports.

Key risk factors include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and smoking.  Almost one in two (47%) Americans have at lease one of these three risk factors.

Cardiovascular disease, according to the American Heart Association, causes one in three deaths in women each year, about one woman every minute.  The group's Go Red For Women movement advocates for more research and swifter action for women’s heart health because of startling facts like this.

The American Heart Association’s signature women’s initiative, Go Red for Women, is a comprehensive platform designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally.

So wear red, get social with a share or tweet, and join the conversation by using #WearRedDay.
