任天堂の90年代ゲーム機「NINTENDO64」用の磁気ディスクドライブとして、会員制ネットワークサービス「ランドネット」加入者向けに提供された周辺機器「64DD」。入手経路のハードルの高さや展開時期の遅さ（既にゲームキューブの開発が発表されていた）などによって短命に終わり、表舞台から姿を消してしまいました。
そんなレアな周辺機器「64DD」ですが、海外のコレクターがさらにレアだと思われる“開発キット”を“箱入り新品”で入手し、ゲーム系ストリーマーのShane Luisさんに写真撮影を依頼しました。彼のTwitterアカウントでは開発キット本体や付属品、マニュアルなどの詳細な写真が公開されています。

「64DD」は残念ながら普及はしなかったものの、こうした写真や資料が保存されることで大きなゲームの歴史の一部として記憶に残り続けるのではないでしょうか。なお、Internet Archiveには高画質版の写真もアップロードされています。
